The Adjustable Glider

The Adjustable Glider
09 September 2012

The plane was designed by Lawrence Lek, London Design Museum designer in residence 2012.

You can find more planes here.

Design: “It’s important you fold it so it’s equally balanced on both sides. The angles should be the same and horizontal. It’s a trial-and-error process with design. There are some things you know definitely work, but you always want to be doing something new.”

Attributes: “What I like about this one is the way that you can tweak the design to make it fly better. Angle the wings up and it’ll travel faster. Angle them down and you’ll get better rolls mid-flight.”

ShortList test flight result: Lawrence advised us to “hold it by the small triangle at the bottom. Experiment with finding the centre of gravity of the plane and the angles of the wings.” An incredibly smooth flying machine. Will impress girls (maybe).

Style: “I wanted to find a design that I’d used before but would also work as an image on all sides once it’s folded. The Rorschach test ink dots came to mind because I’d previously created one of my own, and it looked like a plane.”
