The floating cinema

The floating cinema

Top that, Odeon

So it appears as if multiplexes are out. If you're a real film aficionado then instead you'll be attending one of the many pop-up screenings that take place on roofs, in warehouses and in space. Okay so we made that last one up.

But nothing will be able to top this one. The Archipelago cinema allows you to watch a film in the most ridiculously idyllic location imaginable. The floating screen was constructed in the middle of Nai Pi Lae lagoon near Kudu Island in Thailand for a recent film festival.

The Film on the Rocks Yao Noi Festival boasted a very special final screening where guests were taken by boat to a glowing raft in the ocean. Give us a second to collect ourselves will you?

Okay, we're back. The cinema was created by Studio Ole Scheeren and will be on a tour to other locations around the world before finally returning to Thailand where it will be donated to the community of Yao Noi, the original builders.

Fingers crossed it's heading to Skegness soon. Might not work quite so well though.
