The Real Spider-Man

Climber takes on world's tallest building

Scaling buildings is a task that's usually reserved for superheroes, giant lizards and depressives but French madman/urban climber Alain Robert has carved a career out of his daredevil tactics, despite falling into none of those categories.

In the past he's scaled over 70 skyscrapers, including the Empire State Building and in 2004, Taiwan's Taipei 101, the world's tallest building at the time. Frustratingly for him, in 2011 it's no longer at the top.

These days that record now belongs to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Not wishing to be outdone by those annoyingly ambitious architects, Robert decided he had a new building to climb.

Without the aid of wrist-originating webs, he climbed the 2,717ft tower with a rope and harness, equipment he usually avoids. Worryingly he's 48 which makes us feel old and stupid and useless.
