Hitchcock films or no Hitchcock films, suspicion is sure to abound whenever a flock of birds decamps on a pylon. Where did they come from? Where are they going? Do they even make small talk with one another?

Hoping to get a better understanding of at least two of those head-scratchers, Rhode Island artist Dennis Hlynsky has been recording footage of the innate GPS carriers since 2005, starting out with a Flip camera.

It’s only now, however, that he’s upgraded to a Lumix GH2, allowing him gigabytes of high definition footage, and has since honed his editing skills to create brief visual trails, highlighting the path of each moving bird and making for some truly remarkable time-lapse videos.
