When you get called for an interview, you start to think that you're probably in with a good chance; after all, you must already be on their hand-picked shortlist.

Unfortunately, this wasn't the case in Stockholm, Sweden, when people turned up to an employment office for a recruitment meeting to find hundreds of others also waiting.

It transpired that a mailing list had accidentally emailed 61,000 people about the meeting - all the registered job seekers in the city. The crowd filled up the alley containing the office and spilled out into adjacent streets in central Stockholm, with police having to be called to calm the situation.

Clas Olsson, acting director of the employment office (the permanent one has probably gone on holiday) stated that "Something has gone wrong with the mailing list... it has set off a very messy situation at the city office."

Police inspector Ulf Lindgren added "When we got there it was very crowded and there were some upset feelings."

Presumably, there may well be a new job going in the employment office once they find out who sent the email - so that's some consolation for the disappointed jobseekers.
