A sweeping orchestral scores. Haunting discordant choirs. Visions of another world. We're not sure if we would have enjoyed Stanley Kubrick's rendition of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, but it would have added a certain 'something' to the television event of the century.

This week sees the 46th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's small step for man, Vimeo user Nick Acosta has spliced together the soundtrack of Kubrick's 47-year-old masterpiece of science fiction (yep, he was the real winner of the space race) with original Nasa footage of the Apollo 11 mission.

Things get a little silly around the 5:30 mark, but up until that point this short film acts as a neat illustration of just how close to reality Kubrick's vision of space exploration really was. Here's hoping Nasa don't add any artificial intelligence to space missions in the near future...
