Tom Meighan's five favourite films

Kasabian's lead singer reveals all

Tom Meighan's five favourite films

Although it might seem like a relatively simple question, the challenge of naming your five favourite films is a deceptively tough ask. Mainly because there are so many damn films to choose from. We'd guesstimate around 180 gazillion.

To celebrate the release of Kasabian Live! Live at the O2 we had a quick chat with lead singer and self-proclaimed film buff Tom Meighan and threw the gauntlet down for him to try his luck. He survived the experience but needed a fair few f-bombs to get him through it all.

1. E.T.

It affected me so young at such an early age and it still affects me now! It's my religion, as with all films and it's just untouchable. I was three when I first saw it and I went to the cinema about five times to go and see it. I think I watched it on pirate first. I'll show E.T. to my child. I'll sit her on my lap and say phone home. I've got a basket bike to put her in too.

2. Jaws

I know it's a cliché but I've got to say it. There's been nothing like it since. Talk about putting horror on the big screen without actually seeing it. It was genius. I mean, how many sh*t shark films have there been made since? I'm always quoting the lines which is a bit weird. The sequels were sh*t though. They're f*cking appalling. Jaws 2 is alright, Jaws 3D is sh*t and Jaws: The Revenge is f*cking appalling. Michael Caine knows it's appalling as well. They must have been sat on so much blow doing that. It's horrible.

3. The Dark Crystal

It's just f*cking frightening, even now. The creatures are outstanding. Brian Cloud who did the designs and Jim Henson, the way they operate the Skeksis and the Mystics, it's just amazing. I love The Dark Crystal. I was about four when I saw it. I remember watching it on a Betamax. My mum used to work in a video shop. I'd seen everything by the age of six! I watch it on tour and I just love it. Absolutely f*cking out of this world.

4. Casino

Sharon Stone is amazing in it. She's so f*cking great in it. That's why I love Casino, for her performance. It's just great what happens at the end when his car blows up and sh*t. I am right, ain't I?

5. Dead Man's Shoes

Paddy Considine is frightening but so raw. It's set in the midlands as well which I love as they speak like I do. It's a menacing revenge film and it's really sad. Fantastic. I love Shane Meadows. He's been to a few of my shows. He's a great guy. I've met some of the cast of This is England and they're really sweet. They're from where we are.
