A Visual History of World Cup Final Stadiums

It's the biggest sporting tournament in the world, and the final is the apex: winner takes all and glory awaits.

And of course, the setting - the stadium chosen for the honour of hosting the final - is crucial. Can you imagine Geoff Hurst's final goal anywhere other than Wembley? Mario Kempes winning it for the hosts in Buenos Aires' ticker-tape strewn Estadio Monumental? Baggio missing that fateful penalty in the Rose Bowl, California?

Essex-based turf and ground company Grassform have created this great infographic which charts all of the stadiums in the world that have hosted a World Cup Final, complete with year and capacity.

Who will be gracing the turf of the Maracana in a few weeks' time? We'll find out very soon; in the meantime, check the graphic out below and click on it for a larger version.
