Football Fans Asked Not To Dress As Squirrels
28 November 2013

A group of football fans have been asked not to dress up as squirrels, ahead of a match this Saturday.

Fans of League 2 club Scunthorpe United had been expected to don squirrel suits due to the return of former manager Alan Knill, now in charge at Plymouth Argyle. Knill was the subject of a bizarre incident last year when a squirrel got caught in the spokes of a bike he was riding and he crashed, surviving without major injuries.

Afterwards he gave a rather surprisingly philosophical account of his thoughts and feelings, saying: "It was quite serious at the time, I was flying through the air, I came off my bike at 20-whatever miles an hour, an ambulance was called and everything – I could have died. I'm worrying every night about football, about this, about that, I could have been dead. The perspective for me was I might not have been having this conversation. [Defeats] happen, but it puts a perspective on everything."

Now ahead of the expected Scunny, sorry, scurry of squirrels invading Glanford Park on Saturday, the Scunthorpe twitter feed has stated that people in costume, "...won't be banned. However, the club would prefer it if you didn't dress up in 'squirrel attire'."

That's fair enough we suppose, dressing up as a squirrel is a bit nuts.
