Bromley Batman Just Fought Off Racist Thugs Like 'A Human Battering Ram'
You might remember the Bromley Batman from a few months ago when we first introduced you to him. Back then however he was going by the name of Shadow. Since those formative weeks he’s resigned himself to the fact that superheroes don’t choose their own name and accepted the moniker of Bromley Batman.
Which is a shame because we personally really liked the idea of a real life London vigilante hero called Shadow - but hey, the public wants what the public wants.
To give you some quick background in case you missed it, the Bromley Batman (BB – for short…) is a mysteriously masked, combat gear wearing gentleman defending the mean streets of London.
He lives in the shadows, constantly ready to pounce and stamp out injustice, whether it be vandals or muggers. More recently, he saved some drunken guy in Rochester from being attacked by two stocky and racist bullies.
Described by the victim, Damien Ford, 26, as “two big meatheads with shaved heads,” the thugs attacked him as he was walking home drunk last Friday.
Ford, who is black, said: “They pushed me about, swearing but not asking for my money, which is why I thought they were probably racist. I think they just wanted to have a bit of fun because I was tipsy and an easy target.”
As the pair began punching Ford in the stomach he caught a glimpse the south London superhero moving at a fast pace from across the street.
“The ‘Batman’ ran over from the other side of the road near the train station into one of them like a battering ram, sending him down to the floor with momentum,” he recalled.
“All I remember is him taking one down and then getting the other in a wrist lock and pushing them both together and pinning them down. He was a big guy so he used his size to his advantage."
The Evening Standard managed to speak to the mysterious hero (who thus far has refused to reveal his true identity or meet any of the people he’s saved) where he said:
“All I know is [the victim] was being pushed around by two very drunk men. I was having a very quiet nighttime patrol until this happened - I heard them shouting so I ran over and stopped the men attacking him."
At this point the vigilante instructed Ford to get to safety.
“He was so pissed he could barely run, which meant I had to hold the men off until he got far enough away," the Cockney Crusader added.
Ladies and gentleman: Bromley Batman. Not the hero that London deserves, but definitely one that it needs.
