Ah, the one that get away. For us it was Madeleine Sawyer, when we were 13. An incident in McDonalds involving three chicken nuggets. It wasn't pretty. For Eric Stoltz the one that got away was, arguably, a slightly bigger disappointment. It was one of the biggest parts in one of the biggest movie franchises of all time.
Indeed, Stoltz played the part of Marty McFly in Back to the Future for a full 5 weeks before being given the old heave-ho by Robert Zemeckis, for failing to make the director and co-writer 'LOL' enough, as you can see in this amazing clip.
"He's a magnificent actor but his comedy sensibilities were very different than what I had written with Bob (Gale) and he and I were just never able to make that work," he says. "It was heartbreaking for everybody." Particularly Eric, we'd imagine.
Stoltz went on to feature in Pulp Fiction, Killing Zoe and Mask alongside various television roles. Michael J Fox did alright too.
The clip is from the forthcoming Blu Ray release of the Back to the Future trilogy, out on October 26.
