Just when you thought Hollywood couldn’t possibly tinker with your cinematic nostalgia any further, along comes another big budget remake.
But don’t be too worried, as the latest ‘reimagining’ lined up is Point Break - Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 wackily enjoyable, adrenaline-sopping action film which sees Keanu Reeves’ FBI agent go undercover to crack Patrick Swayze’s gang of Californian surfers-cum-bank robbers – and, appeasing fears further, it now has Gerard Butler on board to play the lead villain, according to reports.
Set for a summer shoot, the film will see action shifted from the surf scene to the world of extreme sports, meaning brawny Butler's inclusion is a no-brainer. The script will be written by Kurt Wimmer (he who recently penned the Total Recall remake), while it also looks set to mark the first major feature of upcoming director Ericson Core, and, given how today’s award- burdened Bigelow had first big break with the 1991 caper, the omens are good on this one.
