British actor Jack O’Connell is about to become one very Googled individual.
After rightly lapping up critical acclaim (including some from yours truly - see our interview) for his breakout role in prison drama Starred Up, which, for the record, is a prison he didn't break out of, the young scamp is about to star in Angelina Jolie’s upcoming big budget biopic Unbroken.
He plays the late Louis Zamperini, a former war hero and Olympian who competed at Hitler’s 1936 Olympics before joining the air force during WW2 and surviving a subsequent plane crash in the Atlantic on a raft which he lived on for 47 days.
Yes, 47 days, but don’t fret. Castaway, this isn’t. As the latest trailer, below, proves, there’s an awful lot of action, both on raft and on land, to match the scarcely believable true-life drama adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s book of the same name and given a script treatment by The Coen Brothers. The action is also given a boost by the capable award-laden cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall).
Did someone say Oscar?
Unbroken is in cinemas from 26 December
