This year will mark the 15th anniversary of what might be the most heart-wrenching minute in television history.
If you weren’t brought to tears by the end of Futurama episode ‘Jurassic Bark’, you must be some kind of robot devil. We’re tearing up now just thinking about it.
To cut a long story short, for those only slightly familiar with the show, 1) yes, it’s the episode with the dog, and 2) yes, it’s still as moving as it was a decade and a half ago.
And we’re not the only ones. Billy West – the voice of Fry, Zapp Brannigan, Dr Zoidberg and others – shared his thoughts on an episode that he claims would beat fellow fan favourite ‘Luck of the Fryrish’ in head-to-head combat.
“As a true cartoon fan, the episode, ‘Jurassic Bark’ blew me away,” West explained in a Reddit AMA.
“I never thought a cartoon would have the resonance to evoke such a feeling of sadness. I was really sad. And then I got mad at myself for my eyes misting up.”
Futurama might not ever hit those same heights again, with the last episode having aired in 2013, but it seems the door might not have been completely closed on the show’s universe.

In the same Reddit thread, executive producer David X Cohen suggested we haven’t exactly seen the last of it.
“There are no new TV episodes or movies in the pipeline at the moment... HOWEVER, here and now I promise a different avenue of exciting Futurama news later this summer, no kidding.” Cohen said.
“Keep your expectations modest and you will be pleased, possibly. I am not allowed to say more or I will be lightly phasered.”
