Alien: Earth trailer teases new terrestrial direction for the Alien franchise
The first Alien TV show is shaping up to scare
We’re in a new era for Alien, with TV show Alien: Earth heading to screens not long after the streaming release of Alien: Romulus.
FX has dropped a trailer for Alien: Earth, and it’s not one that will spoil the show beyond giving you the basic premise.
We get a Xenomorph's eye view of it tearing through a space craft before the camera zooms out to reveal the ship is hurtling towards Earth. And, obviously, that is not an ideal state of affairs.
What is Alien: Earth?
Alien: Earth is set in 2120, just a couple of years before the events of the original 1979 Alien movie.
Sydney Chandler was announced as the show's lead in 2023. And she is anything but the Sigourney Weaver copy-and-paste job you might be expecting.
She plays Wendy, a “meta-human” who has an adult body “but the brain and consciousness of a child” according to Deadline.
She comes as a pair with Timothy Olyphant, the biggest name in the cast, who plays Kirsh. It sounds like he will act as Wendy’s guardian, generally described as her “trainer”.
Fans of classic British comedy will also note Adrian Edmondson — of Bottom and The Young Ones — is also on the cast list alongside Alex Lawther and David Rysdahl.
The show is written by Noah Hawley, who also directs a couple of the episodes. He is best known for creating the Fargo TV show.
“It’s going very well. It's certainly bigger than anything I've ever done… You’re going to see that thing that has only ever existed in space or on a prison world come to Earth. And that is a portion of what the show is about,” Hawley told Variety last year.
Very little else is known about the arc of the season’s story as yet. And we don’t have a firm release date beyond “Summer 2025.” But we'll be keeping an eye out for more, not least because it's the first live action Alien TV show ever.
Alien: Earth will be released on FX/Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
