Five of the heroes currently missing from Avengers: Doomsday lineup

Where is Tom Holland?

Marvel has announced the cast lineup for its new film Avengers: Doomsday, which has already seen some familiar faces return and is set to premiere in early May 2026.

The announcement video pans across a lineup of empty actors' chairs with names across the back. The lineup is looking pretty impressive already, with the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, and Paul Rudd all set to feature. The final chair has Robert Downey Jr. seated in it, who has previously been confirmed as Doctor Doom.

The announcement also included some of the OG Fox X-Men characters who are reprising roles that have been inactive for over a decade. Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as The Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique.

Also featured are the new Fantastic Four quartet played by Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Human Torch. The four are starring in the upcoming Marvel film The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set to drop in July 2025.

So you’d be forgiven for thinking that this lineup is more or less complete. However, there are five noticeable names that are not currently included in the lineup.

1. Tom Holland

Currently part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man, Tom Holland was noticeably absent from the starry lineup. Does this mean he might be making a surprise cameo? Or that his schedule is already bursting at the seams with other upcoming projects? Hard to say.

His most recent Marvel feature was Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released in 2021. He is set to reprise the role in Spider-Man 4, which is currently scheduled for release in July 2026. He appeared in spin-offs, including Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

2. Charlie Cox

Best known for playing Matt Murdock / Daredevil in seven Marvel projects, Cox was also missing from the lineup. His most recent Marvel feature is Daredevil: Born Again, which debuted in March 2025. The series continues on from the antics of the original Daredevil series, which ran from 2015-2018. Cox has also appeared in other MCU films, including Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in 2022.

>

3. Brie Larson

Larson has played Captain Marvel for over five years, first appearing in the titular Captain Marvel film in 2019, marking Marvel’s first female-led film. She reprised her role in Avengers: Endgame, which briefly became the highest-grossing film of all time and later in The Marvels - a sequel to Captain Marvel. Like Holland, Larson must be juggling a pretty busy schedule, currently starring as Elektra in London’s West End amongst other projects.

4. Guardians of the Galaxy

No Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, or Groot. Although a key part of the MCU and with three films already released, the Guardians of the Galaxy seem to be absent from the Doomsday lineup - despite having appeared in multiple other MCU films, including Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Surprise, Vin Diesel feature anyone? Count us in.

5. Oscar Isaac

Moon Knight perhaps doesn’t immediately spring to mind when thinking of the Avengers but it has one of the most interesting Marvel miniseries. It follows Marc Spector and Steven Grant - two alters of a man with dissociative identity disorder, and both are drawn into a mystery involving Egyptian gods.

It premiered in March 2022 and ran for six episodes. The lead character, played by Oscar Isaac, was absent from the teaser video. However, this isn’t entirely surprising, as Moon Knight was a stand-alone miniseries, and Isaac hasn’t appeared in any other Marvel projects since.
