It’s hard to say which is more iconic in Brit culture between The Inbetweeners and Oasis. The former gave us unforgettable moments from punching a fish in the face, ‘oohh fwend’, and of course, the ‘is this a word??’ revision scene amongst countless others.
Whilst the Gallagher brothers have given us bangers like Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova, alongside more family drama than an Eastenders episode.
Now however, you can have the best of both all in one place as Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas have teamed up once again, taking on the roles of Liam and Noel in a Red Nose Day special. The story will chart the Gallagher brothers’ journey from Manchester lads to global rock sensations all with a comedic twist.
It’s a better cross-over than Greggs and Nigella, but what should viewers expect - other than Buckley and Thomas’ signature banter?
Well, the BBC has revealed there will be drama, sibling showdowns, and unexpected celebrity cameos, wrapped up in a heavy dose of Britpop nostalgia, iconic 90s music moments, and cheeky humour. Sign me right up.
Who else is starring?
They’ve got an outrageously star-studded cast joining them, including: Hugh Dennis, Martin Lewis, Micky Flanagan, Vernon Kay, Mark Silcox, Tasha Ghouri, Melvin Odoom, Roisin Conaty, and Piers Morgan. The cast are all rumoured to be stepping into recognisable roles from the band’s legendary story.
“I had such a fun time with Joe, making this sketch for Comic Relief, and was honoured to be asked to be a part of it.” Buckley said, and admitted to being “a huge Oasis fan”, so “getting to be Liam for the day was a dream come true.”
Joe Thomas said that he “grew up watching Comic Relief and the big sketch was always a highlight of the night. So it’s both thrilling and nerve wracking to be a part of it.”
The sketch will air as part of the Red Nose Day broadcast on Friday 21st March, which starts at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
