Nike is out to flip the script in a way we never guessed, with a pair of Air Force 1 shoes designed to get more white and clean-looking as you wear them.

The Dirty Triple White edition of the Nike Air Force 1 Low has just been announced, and will be available from May 7 for $130. For now this is a US exclusive, and the pair can be ordered through the SNKRS app.

“The more you wear it, the more beautiful it becomes,” says Nike. As long as you don’t go walking through too many muddy parks and puddles, anyway.

In the box Nike also includes a toothbrush, to let you scrape through the grime more quickly and let the white leather shine.

“We put a toothbrush in there, too, in case you want to take things into your own hands,” says Nike.

What this factory-applied grime is made of, we do not know. But it’ll probably go down well on socials.

There’s also a “Triple Triple Black” counterpart, although we’re yet to see what that pair looks like in person. Distressing a black trainer is a trickier proposition. A promo pic suggests the faux-wear is a lot less obvious in that colour.

The lead image to this story comes from Complex, which also posted a video of the grime being washed off.

This is not the first time we’ve seen messed-up trainers sold as a gimmick. And, in fairness to Nike, it’s a much less brazen display than Balenciaga’s worn-out range.

Balenciaga sold 100 units of basically destroyed pairs of Converse-a-likes for $1850 in 2023, and a “mud” caked Defender pair for $1550 in 2023. Here's that earlier decimated set:
