PSVR2 virtual reality headset for PS5 gets massive price reduction this March
A price reduction you’ll dive into head first.

The PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) was not the success Sony had hoped it would be, only selling 600,000 units in the first six weeks following its February 2023 release before sales slowed. It was by no means a failure, but it underperformed against the original iteration, with production eventually halting on the product after only selling 325,000 units in Q4 2023.
However, during Black Friday last year, discounts on the Sony-built headset saw sales more than double, showing it wasn't necessarily the headset that was the issue but the price point. We’re also now late enough into the PS5's life that consumers are ready to drop big money on another PlayStation labelled device, without a console shaped hole in the wallet.
Now, the headset is seeing a permanent price slash down to £400 from the eye-watering £530 it originally was at launch.
When you consider you need a PS5 even to run the thing, that's a killer amount of moolah when standalone headsets are out there for less, like the Meta Quest 3.
New cut price for PSVR2
With a downward shift in price hopefully inspiring a few more sales, we're hoping even more software will be set to arrive on the device, as developers take a bigger chance on a larger install base.
When the device first launched, Horizon Call of the Mountain was packaged as part of a bundle, with the game getting middling reviews, earning a still-respectable 79 on Metacritic. The problem for many since has been the lack of a truly standout game; this console doesn't have a Half-Life Alyx or Asgard's Wrath 2 which are exclusive to Steam and Meta respectively.
You can't wait to tell your pals about these types of games over a beer with the imprint of your goggles still on your face, and that's still what PSVR2 continues to lack.
If you plan on picking up a PSVR2, maybe wait a couple weeks, as the new £400 price isn't set to kick in until March.
