The release of The Last of Us season two is imminent (13th April), and the much-anticipated show is adapting the second and (so far) final game from Naughty Dog in this series. However, before we’ve even been able to watch season two, season three has been announced.

It won’t be a surprise for anyone who’s been wrapped up in The Last of Us fever, thanks to how popular the games are and the massive success of the first season that brought in a record number of viewers – the season two trailer even became HBO’s most watched trailer after clocking nearly 160m views in its first three days.

The show first debuted in 2023 and was an instant hit, elevating Pedro Pascal into full ‘heart-throb status’ and making Bella Ramsey a household name after their iconic but brief appearance in Game of Thrones before.

For anyone who has played the game, a third season would be a must, as the Last of Us Part II adapted here is an incredibly long game and could never be done justice in just the seven episodes season two is getting. Recently, there was even speculation that the show could run for four seasons after comments from HBO exec Francesca Orsi.

The show's first season faithfully adapted the game, so we expect the second season to do the same, with it also being set after a bit of a time jump from season one. We will also get to see Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), one of the main characters of the second game. Anything else said here may spoil the show… so we’ll leave that there for now, despite how exciting it will be to see the character introduced.

The Last of Us season two is set to debut in the UK on the 13th of April, exclusively on Sky/NOW TV. It will begin with a single episode and run for seven weeks before ultimately concluding for this year. Hopefully, we won’t have such a long wait between season two and three, but we’ll have to wait and see.
