We all love a rich dessert, but you'd have to be extremely rich to afford this one.
Bagatelle, a restaurant in New York's Meatpacking District, has just added a $1000 (£590) ice cream sundae to its menu. Most of its value comes from the fact that it is served with a Mauboussin ring - made of black steel and white gold - which itself is worth around $530 (£315). Nonetheless, that means that the remaining elements of this decadent dessert - scoops of vanilla ice cream, Dom Perignon Rose sorbet, chocolate truffles, macarons, whipped cream, 'gilded brownies', chocolate vodka sauce and sprinkled gold leaf - are worth $470 (£275).
Plus it means that you get to take something home at the end of the meal - and not just an empty wallet, a sense of overindulgence and a pang of regret.
