New book boasts iconic photos of stars and their shades
Sadly, there isn’t a Haynes manual covering how to look devastatingly cool in a pair of sunglasses, but 50 Shades by Lauren Goldstein Crowe could well be the next best thing.
Released next week, the 120-page coffee table extravaganza features 50 carefully selected photographs of the most iconic stars of the past century looking sharp in their shades.
Andy Warhol, Brian Jones, Elvis Presley, Robert Redford and Jack Nicholson (pictured) all appear – the latter summing up the importance of his sunglasses with the superbly frank quote above.
Alongside the images, Goldstein Crowe – a fashion writer for The New York Times and Vogue – includes details of how Jackie Onassis “kept a bowl full of [sunglasses] by the door” so she’d never leave the house without a pair, and why the Persols Steve McQueen wore in The Thomas Crown Affair sold for £70,000 in 2006.
