An epic supercut of all the Stanley Kubrick references in The Simpsons
It appears the writers of The Simpsons might be quite fond of Stanley Kubrick.
Our suspicions first arose when the 25th Halloween of Horror episode featured homages to no less than three works of the great director (2001: A Space Odyssey, Eyes Wide Shut and A Clockwork Orange). Coincidence? So you’d think...
Then we went back into the archive, realising that the fifth Treehouse of Horror mini-episode was directly inspired by The Shining, a film directed by - you guessed it - Stanley Kubrick.
Ok, we're kidding, we know all about the show’s appreciation of the ‘Kubes'. Back in those halcyon early days, producers managed to crowbar in subtler tips of the hat to the likes of Full Metal Jacket and Dr Strangelove, references easily missed all those re-runs ago.
So if a reminder were needed, here comes a neat supercut compiled by Vimeo user Really Dim to really lay bare the history of this Kubrickian love-in.
