With the news team-based comedy sequel being released on Blu-ray and DVD, we asked its director to tell us how to watch it....
Describe Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues in five words:
Controlled, anarchy with sideburns.
What should we drink while watching the film?
It is definitely a beer movie. I would definitely recommend pints. It is obviously a very American movie so I would recommend a slightly crappy beer. I would go with Rolling Rock. Old Rolling Rocks and maybe there’s a little shot of Irish whisky in there. It’s definitely that kind of movie though.
If you could sum up the movie in an item of clothing, what would it be?
A three-piece suit. What’s that colour that’s not really tan, it’s browner than that? Yeah, a poop coloured three-piece suit.
If there was one other person, alive or dead, who sums up the movie, who would it be?
I would say, he’s still alive, but Neil Diamond. He would just say ‘perfection.’
What’s your favourite line in the movie?
It’s not a laugh line at all, in fact it was almost a throwaway line, but ‘I’m a big Kench Allenby guy’. If anyone of us was around, we would say ‘I’m a big ___ guy’ whoever it was.
What is your favourite scene in the movie?
I love the scene where Champ and Ron are discussing why his restaurant is serving bats.
If you had to sell the Blu-ray to people in one sentence, what would you say?
There’s certainly lots of comedy on Blu-ray. The Blu-ray might set the all-time record for raw amounts of comedy on one medium that you can buy. It’s crazy, there are like 4,00 jokes on Blu-ray alone. If you love Anchorman, definitely get it, if you don’t, don’t get it.
And finally, what does Ron Burgundy smell like?
That’s a good question, I think it’s a pretty thick cologne smell. Yeah I think he’s the kind of guy who smells like thick cologne, definitely always slightly reeking of booze. Oh I think hairspray too, I think there’s this strong old-fashioned consumer hairspray for men. In fact that might be the smell that jumps out the most.
