Having slogged your proverbial guts out on a project, staying extra nights, ordering takeaway to the office at 23:00, what's the usual reward you can expect from your boss? A free BLT from the cafeteria? A pint come Friday drinks? A drive in the company minibus? You need to get a job with adidas.
When illustrator Peter O'Toole (not that Peter O'Toole) and Berlin-based obsessive adidas collectors Quote teamed up to create a stunning limited edition poster of adidas Originals' trainers in 2011, it caught the attention of the German sports giant. Such was the passion and quality of their work, that adidas hired the duo for a project of their own - to create an illustrated book of their most momentous shoes.
Having done a similar fine job on the resulting publication, Quote’s Archive, adidas invited O'Toole and the Quote team down to the adidas archive in Herzogenaurach (Mecca for sneakerheads) and gave them the chance to design their very own shoe.
The result is this ice-cool adidas Originals ZX 420 - the "Quotool" - in a mix of suede and nylon fabrics. Set to go on sale alongside the illustrated book on 15 November, we've already started drafting our cover letter for their next opening.
