Alexis Sanchez gives away shirt: makes a young fan's life
Arsenal's only player hands his shirt to a beaming kid at full time
Like the Premiership days of old, Arsenal and Manchester United’s battle for the top spot (the top Europa League qualification place) is hotting up as the football season draws to another pulsating close.
With just three points and one goal between these two giants of the English game, Arsenal had to scrape a win at the mighty north-eastern powerhouse Middlesbrough. It took a late free kick from their only player, Alexis Sanchez, to seal the deal and hopefully catapult them into the starlights of Europe’s second most popular football competition, which Arsene Wenger is understood to be hoping to exit at the hallowed quarter-final stage.
After the game, a jubilant Sanchez had one more trick up his sleeve: instead of swapping his shirt with his opposite number, he was caught on camera stripping off and handing it to a beaming kid in the crowd.
Sanchez, who is not known for his eloquence in English, had this to say on his Instagram: “happy for the effort of the team, this victory is for the gunner's family #gunners ... great moment giving this gift to this little boy #happyeaster”.
It’s an extremely nice gesture, but the video doesn’t quite capture the kid’s joy as well as a picture taken from a slightly different angle.
It just goes to show that not every single Arsenal fan is having a terrible season.
