This epic meltdown on court at Wimbledon makes McEnroe look like a saint
New balls, please.
One tennis player who won’t need telling this is Viktor Troicki, who proved he arguably has the biggest pair in the game yesterday when going on a spectacular McEnroe-esque tirade at Wimbledon.
5-3 down in the final set against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the 25th seed felt aggrieved about an overturned line call which meant his opponent was serving for the match. Quite literally causing a racket, the rangy Serb screeched for all to hear before charging over to the umpire ball-in-hand to prove none of the white paint had been transferred because it didn’t touch the line.
With the official shrugging off the protests in that continentally nonchalant way they always do, Troicki then went one step further in his protests by slugging the ball out of the court, reminding us all of that time Tim Henman made a ball girl cry (come on Tim, you're better than that!).
Not done there he also had a few choice words for the man in the chair, Damiano Torella, including such gems as “Worst umpire ever in the world! What are you doing? Did you see the ball?", "What are you doing? Tell me!” and, best of all, "You’re horrible!"
Credit to the umpire for staying cool in the face of this verbal assault, and karma was swift following the unsportsmanlike meltdown as Troicki went onto lose the next point and thus the game, ending his short and miserable afternoon. He then went over to the umpire for another polite word, before being yanked off to the referee's office.
He's probably still there now.
