This anime 'Star Wars' trailer is so good it should be the next film in the franchise

Do you like Star Wars? Of course you do. Everyone does, at least a bit. Even people that say they don’t like Star Wars like certain bits of Star Wars, like Chewbacca or the big walky robots. 

But even if you openly, proudly love Star Wars, the odds are you don’t love Star Wars as much as YouTube animator Dmitry Grozov likes Star Wars.

Do you like 1980s anime? Of course you do. Everyone does, at least a bit. Even people that say they don’t like 1980s anime like certain bits of 1980s anime, like Akira or Battle Of The Planets. But even if you openly, proudly love 1980s anime, the odds are you don’t love 1980s anime as much as YouTube animator Dmitry Grozov likes 1980s anime.

How beautiful is that? He’s combined the best of both world awesomely, with a pitch-perfect mixture of detail and simplicity, lovely Akira-style blurred layers, and a big old moustache on Chewbacca, because why would Chewbacca not want a big old moustache? 

Just lovely. Good on you, Dmitry. We would quite happily watch hours and hours of that. In fact, an Episode IX that looked like this would probably be the only possible way for that film to not really polarise people - everyone would just love it. Do it, Dmitry! Hey Disney, employ this guy!

Disney do in fact have an anime-inspired Star Wars series on the way, entitled Star Wars: Resistance. It looks… alright? Ish? Maybe?

It has a truly savage Like/Dislike ratio on YouTube at the moment (12,000 upward thumbs and 137,000 downward ones at the time of writing), compared to Dmitry’s 15,000 thumbs up and only 198 that point down.

Dmitry, this is your time to shine.
