Apple just made it way cheaper to replace your cracked iPhone screen

So Apple's latest showcase is over, with Tim Cook his usual charismatic self as he unveiled details of the new iPhone 7, its bigger brother the iPhone 7+ and the Apple Watch Series 2, leading to howls of anguish over the much-rumoured dropping of the headphone socket becoming a reality.

But forget about all that, because the eagle-eyed experts at 9To5Mac have discovered something far more important than any of those new models: it's become a lot cheaper to fix your cracked screen.

Hidden away in the small print for for the AppleCare+ extended warranty (honestly, we didn't think anyone ever read those things) comes the excellent news that you'll now only have to pay a £25 charge (known as the deductible) to replace your shattered screen - this fee had previously been £79 for the iPhone 6S and 6S+.

Of course, you'll have to pay for AppleCare+, which now stands at a price of £119 for the 6, 6+, 7, 7+, or £89 for the SE model. And the cost to repair all other types of damage is now £79.

If you don't have AppleCare+, the charge to repair a screen is £146.44 for the 6+ and 6S+ and £126.44 for the 6, 6S, SE, 5S, 5C and 5, with screen and additional damage charges rising to around double that.

So if you're particularly clumsy and reckon you'll need to replace your screen twice in the next two years, you're probably better off buying AppleCare+, and remember that you'll get the expert technical support too, should you need it.

You can buy AppleCare+ within 60 days of buying your iPhone, so the best possible time to drop is it 59 days after you've bought it. You can be particularly careless on that day if you fancy. Thanks Tim.
