Apple Music is finally getting a fix for one of its biggest problems
Matching your songs to your iCloud library is about to get a lot easier
Apple Music user? Good news: Apple is finally sorting out the app's woeful matching system in an update set to roll out in coming weeks.
On subscribing to the Apple Music service, many users have encountered issues with the app's ability (or rather, inability) to match songs in an iTunes library to an online iCloud catalogue, letting you stream your collection rather than having to download it to your device.
Neat in theory, but the matching technology would often fail to find accurate matches for songs, sticking in a live performance version of a track in the middle of a studio album. The app also had an infuriating habit of adding copyright protection to any albums or tracks you re-downloaded from your iCloud library, essentially making Apple the owner of your music collection, rather than you.
The Apple obsessive Jim Dalrymple has reported on The Loop that Apple Music is now rolling out a matching system taken from the iTunes Match service - a superior piece of audio fingerprint technology that users previously had to pay an annual subscription for.
Dalrymple reports that the new matching system is currently being rolled out to one-to-two per cent of Apple Music users per day. It'll fix any erroneous matching issues you've experienced and won't delete any of your current tracks. If you're an iTunes Match subscriber, you might want to consider ditching that subscription fee.
Now, turn up the tunes.
