Either the ‘Avengers 4’ title & trailer details just got leaked or someone has waaay too much time on their hands
Is it real, or just very detailed fanfiction?
With six months to go until the release of the fourth Avengers film, word is beginning to get out about the Marvel blockbuster.
So far, we know the as-yet-untitled project is expected to be released at the end of April, while directors the Russo Brothers have been dropping hints on social media to get fans excited.
However, they’re not the only ones flexing their online muscles and there’s new gossip and speculation released every single day. So much so that it’s actualyl getting a little tricky to separate the genuine leaks from the red herrings.
We’ve had a few supposed leaks of the title already, even if it’s still generally referred to as ‘Untitled forthcoming Avengers project’ or a variation on those words, but there’s one name in particular that’s beginning to gain traction.
Previous frontrunner of the speculated titles was Avengers: End Game, but we now have a new(-ish) player in town – Avengers: Annihilation.
Esquire suggests the ‘leaked’ title hints at an appearance for Marvel villain Annihilus. However, that’s not all we now know: additionally, a hastily deleted reddit post appears to give significant details of the trailer for the film, providing us with plenty to get excited about.
The alleged trailer synopsis posted to the site begins where the last film left off:
“The trailer starts off showing the damaged Infinity Gauntlet in a field on the farm planet
“As the camera focuses in on the Gauntlet, we hear Tony’s voice: “We were destined to lose.” Epic music score starts.
“The Quinjet is shown landing in a Wakandan wasteland as we hear Steve Rogers say: “We have come so far.” Tony and Nebula step off the jet as the remaining Avengers approach.
“Steve has a look of relief and says: “Tony”. Tony, seemingly defeated, shakes his head and gives a friendly smirk back to Cap.”
You can read the entire thing, in greater detail, here.
So, is it real? Plenty have their doubts, suggesting it is little more than fanfiction, but there are some who believe the level of detail makes that less likely.
Could it be a combination, though? A real title and some genuine details, masked with a few bits of fakery to throw people off the scent? Maybe it’s just there to throw us off the scent of all the spoilers Tom Holland keeps revealing.
Avengers: Infinity War, the third instalment in the franchise, was given its official title before filming even began, yet number four is still waiting. Some have speculated that this is because the title itself might reveal elements the filmmakers want to keep a secret until nearer the time, but surely we won’t be waiting too much longer.
