Stand aside Superman and Batman - it seems a rival superhero is riding back into town again.
A mysterious website has appeared which seems to suggest that a Bananaman movie is being planned for a 2015 release. www.bananamanmovie.com features the logos of DC Thomson, Elstree Studios and a twitter hashtag of #peelthepower. Meanwhile, the sound plays a cinematic version of the famous theme tune from the TV series. No other word is forthcoming yet, but we're excited.
For those in need of a recap, Bananaman was a British, tongue-in-cheek response to the macho world of superheroes, featuring Eric Wimp (which was eventually changed to Eric Twinge) who transformed into Bananaman when he ate apples. No, hang on, bananas. That's right. He started life in Nutty comic before transferring to The Dandy, which ceased its print edition in 2012. Of course, he also starred in his own TV series which originally ran between 1983 and 1986, featuring 5-minute episodes and the voices of The Goodies, including Bill Oddie, together with that fantastic theme tune.
We'll keep our eyes (and bananas) peeled for more info as it arrives.
