Ben Affleck's Batman might not be sulking for too much longer.

Rumours are circling that Warner Bros. is looking to give Affleck his own standalone Batman project, away from the clutter of Batman vs Superman, Suicide Squad and both Justice League films.

According to a leak picked up by Latino Review, Affleck would star in and direct the film, currently titled The Batman. It would reunite the caped creative with Oscar-winning Argo writer Chris Terrio, who's since helped tweak the script of Batman vs Superman

Significantly for the saturated world of superhero releases, Warner Bros. is apparently pencilling in a release date for The Batman on 2 November 2018 - the same day that Marvel's Captain Marvel is due to grace cinemas. It's also one the first time in cinematic Bat-history that Batman film hasn't been released in the blockbuster staple months of June and July - as Comic Alliance points out, every other Batman film, including Adam West's effort of 1966, have been summer releases.

Have we reached peak superhero? Can cinema listings stand up to the weight of comic adaptations bleeding out of their accepted silly-summer slots and into the mercifully sensible calendar year? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Only time will tell.
