Ben Stiller's High School Band Album To Be Reissued

Rock star or actor? While such a poser is the stuff of vain fancy for the majority of us, it's a decision that one Ben Stiller apparently had to give genuine consideration. 

When most of us were obsessing over owning a SNES or concocting ill-advised plans to buy alcohol, future class clown Ben Stiller was experimenting with post-punk sounds as the drummer of his high school band Capital Punishment. Such was the commendable focus of Stiller's group that they managed to record and release an LP, Roadkill.

Devoid of commercial appeal and with no means to sell their record to the world, Capital Punishment were destined to become a teenage dream: Stiller proceeded to become a Hollywood star, while band members Peter Swann became a US supreme court judge, Peter Zusi a professor of Slavic studies and Kriss Roebling a musician and documentary maker. But now, thanks to the efforts of music label Captured Tracks, the world is set to be introduced to Stiller's band some 33 years after they recorded their only album.

Captured Tracks has announced that it will be reissuing an expanded, remastered edition of Capital Punishment's 1982 recording. "Beyond whatever curiosity the membership entails, this record is a great example of the kind of home-spun, DIY post-punk that spaghetti-stained, bearded and/or balding collector scum drool over at dimly lit ego-stroking record fairs," states the label's website.

Set for a release later this autumn, you can hear one of the featured tracks below. Here's hoping Stiller reforms the band for a suitably Zoolander-esque mocumentary.
