What was your standout moment of 2011?
Working on Great Expectations was a highlight. Working with brilliant people on a brilliant production — it was special.
Do you have any new year’s resolutions?
I should give up eating crap such as ice cream and chocolate, but they’re too good. Make time to see my friends, and go to see some rugby matches.
What would you like to achieve in 2012?
There’s a film called Life At These Speeds that I’m attached to, which has an amazing script. I want to make sure that gets off the ground. It sounds really w*nky, but I want to spend more time with my loved ones, and have some time to myself.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Probably Romeo & Juliet. We’ve started filming in Italy. It will be a huge challenge for me. You think of all the times it’s been done before, all the various Romeos… But if I do that, I’ll go mad.
Do you feel part of a British scene?
People always ask me about this, especially in America, and I always think, “Yeah, there is.” It’s quite a small group of people. I know a good third of the people here. I know Craig, and Laura, through her boyfriend [Sam Claflin]. We Brits have a different quality to American actors. We’re quite grounded, there’s a certain quality in the way we approach work and the way we have fun, and I think there’s a Britishness about us that American execs seem to love.
