Do you have a standout moment of 2011?
Getting to play on Later… With Jools Holland [with his band Spector]. To find out we were doing that was amazing, but incredibly nerve-racking.
What are you most looking forward to in 2012?
We’re playing at Coachella in Los Angeles, which is exciting. It’s a chance to export British goods and services, now that all the mines and factories are gone. There’s not much we have to offer the world, other than mediocre indie music.
Do you have a new year’s resolution?
I’d like to be more obnoxious. Generally, obnoxious people seem to move quicker and do better. They might make less friends, but they seem to make more of life. I might give that a try, and if it doesn’t work I’ll be pleasant in the second half of the year.
What would you like to achieve in 2012?
I’d really like to go to Japan. If you’re in London, the quickest way to get to Japan is to start a band, even if you’re not very good.
Do you think British music is breaking boundaries?
It is, but not in guitar music. I think it’s crazy to look now at how dubstep is influencing the rest of the world. Nobody can take that away from Britain. We have a great lineage of guitar music, but the truly innovative music today is electronic. You have to be at the forefront of technology to be at the forefront of music.
