Ordinarily*, you would expect a new Beyoncé album to be foreshadowed by the kind of ceremony that usually signifies a royal baby or a new Pope. But no, there was no white smoke coming from Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s Bel Air mansion. Well, not that we noticed anyway.
Instead, a new album from the Queen Bey just popped up on Spotify. Titled Homecoming: The Live Album, as you’ve probably guessed, it’s a live album. Specifically, it’s a live album recorded at her 2018 Coachella performance, which is also watchable on Netflix in the form of a concert special of the same name. Though unlike the Netflix version, this isn’t interspersed with interviews.
Forty tracks is certainly a lot, and should mean that your favourite Beyoncé song is in the mix somewhere. And sure enough, you’ll be treated to the entirety of Crazy in Love before the the first six minutes is up. Though you’ll be waiting an hour and 20 minutes before the first few bars of Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it) come within earshot.
The whole thing is available to buy in the usual places, but is also available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music because this is 2019 and we expect that kind of convenience.
*Actually, that’s not exactly true, as anybody who remembers the 2013 album Beyoncé will no doubt remember. It came out with no fanfare whatsoever, which is more than can be said for the election of a new Pope.
