Biggest video game budgets

While the internet seemingly fills to the brim with stories about Grand Theft Auto V and Apple's iOS 7, we thought we'd throw in a few more words to see if we could break it by lunch.

Its launch has been so prolific, it's been easier to count the review groups who haven't given GTA V 10/10. Rockstar Games managed to make a staggering $800 million in first-day sales (before the game even hit the shelves of Japan and Brazil). It's the most expensive game ever made, and set to be the most successful console game ever made.

Yet such claims need some perspective thrown into the mix. More successful than what? More expensive than who? Well behold, the Most Expensive Video Games in History infographic, created by the useful bunch at graphs.net.

While it's still early days, GTA V is on track to make more than The Sims, Modern Warfare 2 and Gran Turismo 3 within a week of launch - having been created on a budget that makes all Hollywood blockbusters bar the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 turn green with envy.
