America loves nothing more than a spinoff from a successful TV show - well, that and crazy pizza and bacon based foodstuffs - and it looks like the next on the list might be Breaking Bad.
The show is heading into the last eight episodes of its fifth and final season this summer, and TV executives at AMC are keen not to let the franchise finish for good. The supporting character it will focus on is rumoured to be the criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, whose humorous character touches have led to speculation that the new show may be a conventional comedy. However, the idea is very much in the initial stages, so nothing concrete has been decided - yet.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has mentioned the possibility before, saying last year that he "would love to see a Saul Goodman spinoff. I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He’ll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun - I would like that.”
AMC will be desperately hoping that this venture turns out to be a Frasier rather than a Joey.
