It's not been a great week for Brett Ratner. Okay maybe swap 'week' with 'couple of years'.
The 'auteur' who tortured us with three Rush Hour films and Terminator: Salvation has seen his latest film Tower Heist disappoint at the US box office around the same time that he bragged to Howard Stern about "banging" Olivia Munn, just before he told a Q&A audience that "rehearsal is for fags".
So, in a move that will surprise no-one, he has now decided to quit his job as Oscars producer for next year's ceremony.
"Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career," a statement read. "But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents". Ermmm, did he watch the Oscars last year?
His Tower Heist star Eddie Murphy was confirmed as the host but it's not clear if he'll still be part of the show. What is confirmed though, is that Ratner will still produce the film version of Hong Kong Phooey, with Murphy onboard. So there'll be a definite chance of him messing up something else sacred instead.
