We're big on burgers here at ShortList. Home to the largest burger blog in the UK, our younger sibling Mr Hyde has this very day launched National Burger Day. Burgers are, quite literally, in our fat-clogged arteries.
Our hearts strained with excitement when the internet brought us word that Burger King are to launch a new burger. A rival to the ramen burger perhaps? A mass market equivalent to the spaghetti monster of Philadelphia? If only.
In order to combat McDonald's increasingly popular Saver Menu, Burger King are to launch the French Fries Burger - a regular beef patty, topped with four (!) chips, wedged in a bun. This meagre offering still manages to gather 360 calories and 19 grams of fat, all yours for the princely sum of $1 (UK arrival yet to be confirmed). Having announced a minor dip in North American sales last year, the French Fries Burger is Burger King's best attempt to bring back cash-strapped customers.
Will the French Fries Burger topple the mighty McDouble? Will McDonalds respond with the McDrink burger, sandwiching a beverage option into a bun? We trust that the masses will just spend a few more pennies on something other than a half starved idea that's flopped its way out of a crisis meeting.
