Deadline yesterday reported on 20th Century Fox’s plans to revive Cameron Crowe’s 1989 debut, Say Anything, as a TV show. However, the director quickly swooped to nix the idea on Twitter, adding that John Cusack, the film’s star, wasn’t keen either. After reports that the would-be producer Aaron Kaplan and writer Justin Adler had bowed out, it now appears that 20th Century TV has agreed to kill the project - one of the quickest U-turns that we've ever seen.
The coming-of-age comedy followed Lloyd Dobler (Cusack) and Diane Court (Ione Skye) as two students sharing a post-graduation romance in the summer after high school. You can watch the trailer below. It’s worth it to see how fresh faced John Cusack looks.
The potential series would have picked up the characters' lives 10 years down the line but, for now, we'll never know what further adventures they enjoyed.
