Hold on to your hats: the world's fastest lift is going to be built in China.
The lifts at the Guangzhou CTF Financial Centre, which should be finished in 2016, will be able to hit speeds of 44mph (72km/h), enabling them to traverse the 95 floors and 440m height in just 43 seconds.
There'll be 95 lifts in total in the building, with just 2 of them being the flagship 'superfast' lifts - we'd just wait our turn then spend all day going up and down.
When it's completed, it will take the record from the current holder: an elevator in the Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan, which has a top speed of 60.6 km/h (37.7mph).
