The joy of sending miniaturised cars scuttling around a Scalextric track is always dented by the tedious task of clearing every inch of floor space, building the circuit, rebuilding the circuit when you realise you're missing a vital corner piece and putting the whole lot away again. For £50,000, you can now buy a more permanent, striking solution.
This marvel is a genuine, full-size 1969 Camaro Z28 classic car, stripped of its seats, windscreen and engine to house a highly detailed slot car track based on New York's Watkins Glen International raceway. Boys toy doesn't even begin to cover it.
The body of the Camaro hides several neat tricks: the old key fob turns the track on, while pushing on the door handle activates LEDs that illuminate the course - which is covered in imitation grass, trees and its own crowd. Twelve slot cars are included with the build, including muscle classics like the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and fittingly, the Chevy Camaro.
If your petrol head enthusiasm extends to spending £50,000 and losing a parking space to this beautiful creation, you can place an order over at Hammacher Schlemmer.
