Yesterday, the French government were forced to release of tens of millions of euros to help out people who lost all of their belongings in this week’s Paris floods.
The worst flood to hit Paris in three decades, it caused the River Seine to burst its banks and forced the Orsay and Louvre museums to shut up shop in a race to save the priceless art within their walls.
The Seine peaked on Saturday at 6.10 metres (20 feet) – just two metres below the record high set by the Great Flood of Paris in 1910, when the cost of damages climbed to over £1.3 billion.
