Conor McGregor has made a cryptic comment following his arrest in New York

It has been an eventful week for Conor McGregor to say the least.

The two-weight UFC champion has not fought in the promotion since winning the lightweight belt in 2016, and was stripped of his title over the weekend due to inactivity, despite his strongly-worded objections.

However, before the promotion had the chance to make the decision official, the Irishman found himself in more hot water for an alleged attack on a bus carrying rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor, whose last competitive fight was a professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather, was charged with assault over the incident at a UFC event in New York and could face prison time over separate felony charges for criminal mischief.

Three fights were pulled from the card following the incident, which allegedly involved McGregor and an entourage of an estimated 20 people crashing the event. The fights pulled from the card included one involving the Dubliner’s stable-mate Artem Lobov.

McGregor turned himself in to police and otherwise remained schtum, but he has broken his silence by posting this photo alongside a praying hands emoji. 

Naturally, the cryptic message – which McGregor also posted on Twitter (before subsequently deleting it) – has sparked plenty of speculation.

McGregor was reportedly on the verge of a brand new UFC deal before the events in New York, and it’s unknown what impact his antics will have on his sporting future.

Everything he says from here on out will be heavily scrutinised, so perhaps the cryptic approach is the smartest one.
