Craft beer trainers exist - and they’re refreshingly sustainable
Trail running never sounded so good
There’s nothing quite like kicking back with a beer in the great outdoors. The air, the earth, the taste of an ice-cold brew. In fact, some people are so fond of this quintessential pairing, that outdoor brand Merrell has seen fit to join forces with US beer brand Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to launch a co-branded trail running shoe. Because, well, why not?!
The limited-edition Merrell Agility Synthesis X Dogfish (try saying that after a few) is inspired by Dogfish Head’s SeaQuench Ale, proving that life really is all about balance.
The beverage, which has become the best-selling sour beer in America, is contained in a sea-foam green can that has proved a source of inspiration for the new design. This refreshing ‘SeaQuench’ colourway also features graphics including abstract black limes and sprinkling of sea salt. Delicious.
“Today’s adventurous beer drinker is seeking more from their alcoholic beverages than ever before,” notes Dogfish Head founder, Sam Calagione. “They’re looking for a beer that’s not only intensely flavorful, but that fits into their active lifestyle.”
“Partnering with Merrell, leaders in the active lifestyle footwear category, to release this sweet SeaQuench-themed shoe is a great reminder to folks everywhere that you can ‘have your beer and drink it too.’ Maintaining an active lifestyle is all about balance – go for a trail run or a gym workout, then reward yourself with a cold can of SeaQuench Ale.”
It turns out the two brands also share a love for sustainability. The new co-branded shoes have been created with an eco-friendly edge, incorporating reclaimed rubber, a midsole made from 10% BLOOM algae (instead of petroleum) and recycled plastic in its construction.
Merrell will also be donating $10,000 to The Conservation Alliance to coincide with the launch in a bid to protect wild habitats.
Available in the US for the time being, the beer brand will be selling the trainers at its annual Dogfish Dash trail running event on September 29 if you can make it out to Milton, Delaware. Otherwise, those with an internet connection can find the collaboration available on the Merrell website.
