If you've taken public transport at least twice in the past 12 months then you'll have noticed a range of people engrossed in Gillian Flynn's runaway bestseller Gone Girl.
A devious thriller about a missing wife and her potentially murderous husband, it gripped like a vice through a cavalcade of twists and turns.
A natural fit therefore for David Fincher, who has mastered the genre with Se7en and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
After bucketloads of hype, we now have our first look at his take on the loved novel, with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike taking on the lead roles. As with the initial tease for Dragon Tattoo, it's a case of striking imagery and music over plot, which given the shock value of the story, is a wise decision.
Time will tell if Affleck and Pike can overcome the naysayers, but for now we're hoping for the best and suitably intrigued that Flynn was written an entirely new ending...
Gone Girl hits cinemas October 3rd
