Danny Boyle And Leonardo DiCaprio In Talks For Steve Jobs Biopic

As the Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs movie swiftly fades from the world's collective memory - except for this gif - things are moving quickly ahead on the 'proper' Steve Jobs movie. Until last week, David Fincher was in line to direct the untitled Sony project with a script by Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin, but Fincher dropped out due to disagreements over control and Sony balking at his demand for a $10 million salary. Now Danny Boyle is in early negotiations to take over directing duties and he might be bringing Leonardo DiCaprio along with him - to star, not help him direct.

If the deal is done then it would be the first time Boyle and DiCaprio have worked together on The Beach in 2000. Sony is said to want to get shooting under way very soon, which could cause a slight snag with DiCaprio, who is already committed to The Revenant, Alejandro González Iñárritu's film about a 19th century fur trapper left for dead in the woods and forced to travel 350 miles home. Fincher's original choice had been Christian Bale, who never actually officially signed on.

Unlike the more straightforward biopic Jobs, the Sorkin script, which is based on Walter Isaacson's official biography, is said to consist of just three long scenes taking place just before the launch of three major product launches. Given how much Boyle tends to like movies that mess with genre conventions, it's easy to see how that might appeal.
