Unlike most major announcements regarding Apple, this one won’t have you banishing your smartphone to the bottom of your drawers and start queuing for a newer model.
Because after what seems like an age we can report that Danny Boyle’s untitled Steve Jobs biopic – that same project that once had David Fincher primed to direct as well as Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale attached to star - has finally confirmed its cast, with Michael Fassbender playing the turtlenecked tech titan.
The rest of the cast is equally as heavyweight: Jeff Daniels plays Apple CEO John Sculley, Kate Winslet plays a Mac marketing whizz, and Seth Rogen, following in the footsteps of his now Oscar-nominated friend Jonah Hill with a ‘grown-up’ role, plays co-founder Steve Wozniak.
Based on Walter Isaacson’s authorised if close-to-the-bone biography and scripted by Aaron Sorkin, the action is whittled down to three iconic product launches, concluding with the debut of the first iMac in 1998, filming is already underway. In fact, the crew has just finished filming at Jobs's childhood garage in Los Altos.
We're already expecting Oscar talk. Because if anyone can rock a turtleneck, it’s Fassbender.
